August Event: Maple Court Veterans Housing, Durham, NC

Hi Guys,

Maple Court on Google Maps

Maple Court is a transitional housing community for homeless veterans. The purpose of the facility is to provide secure, affordable housing with services for veterans who are transitioning from being homeless to self-sufficiency.

As of now, the plan is to construct a raised bed for a community garden.

There are likely some additional projects we will be working on.

I’m waiting on some details from the coordinator as to what they will have and what we need to bring.

Here is a bit more info on Maple Court: Maple Court Veterans Transitional Housing Program

Let me know who is interested/available… target is 10-20 people…if there is a greater turnout – I’ll see about coordinating a 2nd opportunity.

As is customary, we have a discussion thread on ‘Mud to coordinate this event.

Please make every effort to participate in this event.

URE Falls Dam Trail Maintenance March 27

ONSC’s adopted trail at Uwharrie National Forest, Falls Dam, is due for some maintenance, and the Forest Service has asked that we head over March 27. Following is information we received from Terry with the USFS:

“Hi Greg – March 27th-28th is good for us. We only have one other club scheduled for that day. We need to finish our inventory next week and get final details to you. Plan on putting in some guardrail and let me know if you think the club will be able to rent a walk behind or pull behind auger. We have 3 hand/gas augers that we can use but if your club is planning on renting any equipment that would be the most useful. If you can’t rent one let me know and we’ll get one set up on our end. How many volunteers will you have there?

Have your club members be ready to meet the FS folks at Uwharrie Hunt Camp at 9 am on Saturday, March 27th. Have them bring water, lunch, work boots, work gloves, and if a couple of you could bring ratchet or wrench sets that would be helpful too. I’ll send more details next week about what to plan for. Also, if your club members are going to camp over at Arrowhead please contact Janet Becker at uwharriehost@hotmail.com and me by Tuesday or Wednesday of that week (March 23rd or 24th) so she can get things set up. Thanks a lot. Bye – Terry”

It’s important that we live up to our commitment to the Uwharrie trail system, so please come out and assist with the work.

Annual Meeting and Holiday Party, December 12

As we wrap up a very successful 2009 for Olde North State Cruisers and get ready for the holidays, the Club will hold the annual meeting and holiday party Saturday, December 12, in Apex, NC. Clint and Stacy Strong have graciously offered to host the meeting again this year – and they set the bar very high last year so this year’s meeting is sure to be a great experience!

We’ll have time to reflect on our many accomplishments in 2009, discuss plans for 2010, discuss those winter projects, and share a few tall tales.

The Officers of ONSC hope as many members as possible can attend this meeting. As always, details are available on the ONSC forum on IH8MUD.

Hope to see you there!
