Cape Hatteras National Seashore Plan is Finalized

The NPS decided to move forward with Alternative F to manage the divergent interests on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. This plan has consequences for ORV use on the Outer Banks, to include a permit and education system, managing of vehicle density, permanent beach closures and Vehicle-Free Areas (VFA’s) in certain areas, greater clarity around which areas are open, ramp closures and new ramp construction, and seasonal closures for turtles and our friend the Piping Plover.

Overall, Alternative F appears to be a decent compromise for everyone, especially the Residents and Business Owners on the OBX who would have been severely impacted by some of the other alternatives.

HELLA-HAMOM for January

Can you imagine a better way to start the ONSC New Year? Darin will be hosting a 2-day Help A Member of the Month (HAMOM) at his place in Fayetteville. For the uninitiated, Darin has an awesome shop on his property – which also houses one of the finest Cruiser collections around. He has graciously invited the club down the weekend of January 22-23 to work on…….. whatever anyone wants!

Yep, feel free to bring your junk and get a bunch of helping hands, have access to a full suite of tools, and start the New Year right. Just be sure to check in on our ‘Mud Planning thread, and if you need to do some work, post up so we’re all aware.

Even if you don’t have anything to work on, try your hardest to get to Darin’s. This promises to be a great weekend for all NC Cruiserheads and an awesome start to 2011.
